Passing of UA Member Lawrence Matyas

March 9, 2019

Lawrence Matyas, late of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan (and recently of Regina, SK), passed away after a long, courageous battle of cancer, with his family by his side on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the age of 78 years old. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Eva Matyas. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Delores; sons Brad (Vicki) Matyas, Brent Matyas; daughter Linnea (Brad) Wiszniak; grandsons Chase (Chantal) Matyas, Kyerin Matyas, Kaleb Wiszniak; grandaughter Grace Wiszniak; great-grandson Wayland; siblings Florence (Roy) Knourek, Patrick (Margaret) Matyas, Lillian (Robert) Hawcutt, Marie (Larry) Wilde; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his cherished friends.

Lawrence was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed listening to the fishing and hunting stories that his beloved grandchildren shared. He loved camping with his family and friends and instilled this love in all of his children.  We cherish the memories of these good times, even the rotten tricks he loved to play on his wife! When the weather turned too cold for fishing or camping, Lawrence loved to play cards with his family and friends and enjoyed his Cribbage.

Lawrence always looked out for others before himself. If you needed help with something or anything done, he was there. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. At Lawrence’s request, there will be a celebration of his life at a later date.  Flowers most gratefully declined.  Family and friends so wishing to make donations may do so, in memoriam, to the Allan Blair Cancer Center, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1 or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the medical staff on both Esterhazy and Regina’s Palliative Care team for the excellent care provided during his journey.
