Passing of UA Local 179 member James Mihial

August 12, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Robert Mihial on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the age of 82 years. Jim was born on June 7, 1943 in Regina, SK.

He was predeceased by his parents Dan and Nellie Mihial; sisters Grace, Norma, and Margaret; and his brothers Billy and Donald.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Shirley Matusko; daughter Debbie Mihial; sister Eleanor Hodel (Jake); brother John Mihial (Pat); sisters-in-law Marg Matsuko and Irene Mihial; brother-in-law Wayne Cann; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was a proud 60-year member of UA Local 179, and worked as a pipefitter and welder prior to his retirement in 2003. Jim spent a great many years working pipeline across Saskatchewan and Alberta. Jim enjoyed his many years of retirement, especially winters in Arizona with Shirley and returning home in the spring to plan and plant his garden and eventually enjoying the fruits of his labour.

The family of Jim would like to thank Dr. Bhanu Prasad and the nurses and staff at the Renal unit at the Regina General Hospital, as well as Dr. Laursen and Dr. Booker for their care over the many years.

Flowers are gratefully declined, friends wishing to make donations in Jim's memory can do so to the Regina Humane Society or a charity of your choice. A Come and Go Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1:30 p.m.  A private family interment will be held.
