Passing of Former UA Local 179 Member Lawrence Hilkewich

HILKEWICH, Lawrence EdwardMay 13, 1938 – August 21, 2013It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Hilkewich on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 75 years.Lawrence is lovingly remembered by his wife Eleanor; sons David (Melalnie), Allan (Colinda); four grandchildren Cory, Jade, Tyler, Liam all of Saskatoon. He is also survived by his brother Tony (Anne); sister-in- law Virginia (Al) Weselowski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Emily Hilkewich; brother Orest; father and mother-in-law Ray and Violet Gesy; and brother-in-law Joe.Lawrence was born on May 13, 1938 to Peter and Emily (Ruhachuk) Hilkewich in Alvena, SK. He attended school in the Keiv School District; after which Lawrence moved to Saskatoon and began his career in the plumbing trade. He married Eleanor Gesy on August 5, 1961 and they were blessed with two sons.
He worked for Dent Mechanical for 15 years and then St. Paul's Hospital for 15 years until he retired in 1998. After his retirement, Lawrence and Eleanor moved to Big River to live at their cabin and they returned to Saskatoon in 2011.Lawrence enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, a good game of cards, friends and riding his quad.The family would like to thank Dr. Spelay and the staff at St. Paul's for their loving care of dad.Prayers for Lawrence will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Yuriy Banga, CSsR at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 10th Street East and Munroe Avenue, Saskatoon on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
