November 20, 2013

Joel Bedard

September 27th, 1951- October 5th, 2013

BEDARD- Joël Joseph Raymond Bédard was born in Gabriel Hospital in Ponteix, SK on September 27, 1951. He passed away at Swift Current, SK on October 5, 2013. He is survived by his siblings Renald (Beverly) of Kelowna, BC, Marcel of Ponteix, SK, Adèle (Neil) Morissette of Edmonton, AB, Claude (Eva) of Comox, BC, Roxanne of Ponteix, SK, Luc (Teresa) of Vancouver, BC, Richard (Rosemary) of Saskatoon, SK, Léanne Robertson of Chetwynd, BC, Valerie of Ponteix, SK, and numerous nephews, nieces and relatives. His parents Omer 1990 and Berthe 2010 and brothers Lucien 1946, Joseph 1956, Norman 2007 predeceased Joël.

Joel attended and graduated from Ponteix High. After graduation he went to Calgary and worked in sales. He left Calgary in 1972 and moved to Prince George where he worked building houses. Carpentry was not to his liking therefore he started working part time as a bartender. He eventually became manager of the Hut Cabaret the most popular nightclub in Prince George at the time. Joel made friends very easily and had a lifelong relationship with some of his many friends in Prince George and throughout BC. Joel next moved back to Calgary where he took up the trade of his life, plumbing. He always maintained a high standard in the quality in his work. He once confided that plumbers were always pleased to work with him or to assist on projects that he was involved in.

Joel finally returned home taking up residence in Swift Current. History repeated itself in his work and his ability to quickly make friends. Joel was equally at home with princes or paupers always loyal and dedicated to all his friends and acquaintances. He shared his passion for all sports with whoever would listen. He was a lifelong Flyers fan and got to attend the 1976 Stanley Cup finals in Philadelphia where he was invited into the Flyers dressing room after the final game. All who were touched by his pleasant and gentle demeanor will miss him.
